"Fecundity" by Annie Dillard response
Flickering green lights dance to the beating drum of data that courses through it's copper veins. this life blood of unfathomably small electrons is something that can be easily halted if a knife were to pierce deeply into it's rubber skin and tear it into pieces. will it's information not pour upon the floor and share it's stories with who ever is there to listen? i'm afraid not, for these copper wires that twist and spiral do not hold what you look for but speak it. not only is this the language of data, is also the same that gives it it's lungs to speak. does this same process not happen similarly with in is us? does our wrinkled brain not shoot out it's signals so we can take in each unrealized breath and use the air to speak? but being the creatures that we are, we would rather not. if evolution is an endless process it seems as if we are taking it into our own hands, essentially creating our future silicon hosts. escaping the body and freeing the mind from what is to inevitably come. it is thought that when we leave these earth given forms we find our place in intense luminosity. but perhaps one day it will not be the sky, but in the flickering green light.
